For this week’s discussion, review the readings for this unit about the theories of aging, as well as some of the environmental, social, and cultural factors that impact later adulthood. Three of the stress management techniques I would recommend to a client that is serving as a caretaker are distancing from the care situation, physically and emotionally, keeping up personal hobbies, and having at least one confidant for emotional support (Ashford, 2017). Caretakers become attached to their clients and gain a physical or emotional relationship and that makes it hard to deal with the client’s death. Not building a personal relationship can make it easy for the caretaker in some situations. One thing that can help with grief is keeping up with your hobbies. Those hobbies will keep your mind off the loss of a client. Having someone to talk to will allow someone to get their feelings out and hear some advice to help someone grieve. These three techniques will be helpful when dealing with the loss of a client.
