- In one paragraph, describe why you believe understanding the four conflict styles and applying techniques for conflict resolution are critical to effective communication. What do they teach us about ourselves and about others in our groups?
- Then, for each of the four conflict styles (passive, aggressive, passive-aggressive, and assertive) complete the table with the following:
- Using your own words, define the common characteristics of this conflict style.
- Describe one example of how this conflict style can positively impact communication in group settings.
- Describe one example of how this conflict style can negatively impact communication in group settings.

The importance of understanding the four conflict styles is vital to our daily interactions. Without knowing these styles we may lack the ability to actively communicate or actively problem-solve. When we learn our own communication styles and how we operate in conflicts we can begin to grow as individuals, create and maintain substantial relationships and excel in our professional lives. Communicating in groups can be a challenge without being able to identify the different conflict styles, and without that ability, we could experience great trouble with overall communication.
