Unit 1 Discussion MM207 Statistics

Discussion Overview
Review the discussion requirements.

In this unit, new terminology is introduced that you will use throughout your life. After completing the assigned readings, do an internet search to find an article from a newspaper or magazine that involves a statistical study.

Post 1: Initial Response

After reading the article you found, explain the following:

  • Why did you choose this article?
  • What did you find interesting about this article?
  • What in this article do you think allows us to classify it as a statistical study?
  • Do you agree or disagree with the conclusions stated in this article? State your reasoning as to why you agree or disagree.

Be sure to include a link or APA reference for the article you chose to discuss.

Post 2: Reply to a Classmate

Review several of your classmates’ posts. In response to one of your classmates’ main posts, share whether you agree or disagree with the conclusions in the article. Do you see any possible bias in the article? Explain.

Post 3: Reply to Another Classmate:

Again, review several of your classmates’ posts. In a response to another classmate you have not already posted a response to, reflect on the following points. First, what population do you think this study is targeted for? Then, discuss why this is likely not a random sample. Remember a random sample is where all members of the population have an equal chance of being selected.

Unit 1 Discussion MM207 Statistics Answer

I chose an article on Juvenile delinquency statistics, because after I graduate, I want to be a juvenile probation officer. I have a passion for working with the youth, so this is something that is personal to me. It can give me some knowledge prior to going into that field and what is to come.
