Within a healthcare environment, the dynamics of power are both extensive and intricate, as highlighted by Sepasi et al. (2016). Power plays a pivotal role in shaping how responsibilities are carried out, impacting satisfaction levels, and contributing to the realization of an institution’s objectives. In my current health organization, I regularly observe the interplay between positional and personal authority.

Positional authority, also referred to as legitimate power, empowers me, as a nurse executive, to efficiently execute administrative healthcare functions. This authority grants me significant influence over the healthcare institution’s operations, allowing me to shape the conduct of activities.

For example, I play a crucial role in ensuring that my subordinates adhere to established healthcare standards. Simultaneously, I assist them in internalizing the organization’s accepted practices, behaviors, and beliefs, particularly in the delivery of services to patients.
