The essay of my choice is called, “To Scratch, Claw or Grope Clumsily Frantically” by Roxane Gay. She joins a scrabble tournament with her colleagues. Gay is fresh to the competing games of Scrabble. She says that, “I didn’t quite know what a Scrabble club was, but I assumed it was a group of people enjoying friendly games of Scrabble on a Saturday afternoon” (Gay,2012, p.31). She soon understands that scrabble is very challenging and more difficult than she imagined. The main point of the essay is that the author was able to get through the tournament without giving up. She used her improvising skills and brainstorming skills to succeed in the tournaments. Even though she lost to some contestants and eventually lost the tournament, she did not let the loss affect her motivation and attitude………..
