Think about the library reading you have selected and your critical response to it. Write an introductory paragraph that includes background information, your working thesis statement, and your plan to develop that thesis statement.

Background information and plan:

Utilizing the SQ3R method, I noticed throughout the essay that Hooks is addressing Silas House’s speech on those who have been and still are being affected by racial injustice, exploitation and oppression. Something that stuck out to me was Hooks speaking on how those who are “privileged witnesses suffering, in which they long for justice but fear more often than not overwhelmed by powerlessness.” Hooks, B (2014) Speaker House spoke frequently about a “new Appalachia” in comparison to the current state of Kentucky. There is a system that is set in place to prevent the progression of specific racial groups. We must “act again and again, to revolt and resist” House, S. (2014), as a community it is our duty to gather together no matter your background, race, sexual orientation or gender to bring freedom and fairness to all.

Due to the current social and racist injustice, I have learned that racism is well and alive. I never realized the severity of it until I witnessed someone close to me get treated poorly and called out of their name for reasons out of their control……………………..
