Many strides have been made by women in carving out a presence in literature to date. However, based on the thirteen literature book names I acquired from my nieces, evidence supports that women’s books remain the minority. While variances in teaching approaches and class orientation can play a factor in what books are selected, out of the thirteen books provided, 38.46% of the books were comprised of works by women compared to 61.54% of works written by men. In addition, eight out of the thirteen books were written before the twentieth century when women struggled to make a name in literature, and only three out of those eight are written by women—To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (1960), ……..
