LA2002: Classifications of Defense: Apply classifications of defense and justifications in criminal justice settings. Answer
- a) What is the Actus Reus, or the Action that Caused Harm?
The five criminal justice case studies have different elements showing the Actus Reus component. Johnny shot his father using a revolver, causing him minor injuries. Secondly, Edwin jumped the fence of the 84-year-old homeowner and started breaking the door. Not only did he cause panic, but he also destroyed the house. The third case is of three boys, Scott, Jake, and Tony, who got involved in a fight, and Jake got hurt. Swaging is the action that got Jake in the process of struggle. The fourth case involves Travis and Paul arguing in a parking lot. The case went south as Travis shot Paul in the chest after a short altercation about a parking spot and died on the spot (Reid, 2016). Finally, the fifth case study is about Tim, who tied his mother to a chair and tried to stab the responding officer. These scenes show the actions that caused harm. The cases have full evidence of the problems and the perpetrators and what impact or effect they have on the defendants. While in criminal justice, evidence is crucial, as actus reus matters in any criminal case presented before a court of law.
