Listening is a skill and like any skill, the more you practice good habits, the better you get. Of course, it is also easier to listen to others when messages are crafted with the audience in mind.

I am going to start my discussion with empathic listening.  In my opinion, this is one of the most important types of listening.  Empathic listening is when you listen with empathy and try to see things from another person’s perspective (Creel, B., Hamilton, C., Kroll, T. 2019).  I feel that it is very important to be an empathetic listener in all relationships.  Especially in a marriage.  I often try to explain to my husband that he does not necessarily have to agree with the way I feel, but I would like to know that he can at least see my perspective and try to understand where I am coming from;  then I will do the same for him…………..
