Review a state department of corrections website of your choosing, or the Federal Bureau of Prisons (Links to an external site.), and explore a position within a corresponding correctional system. You can also consider any of the Twitter web pages for state correctional departments listed in the Required Resources this week: SC Dept. Corrections (Links to an external site.), FL Dept. Corrections (Links to an external site.), MDOC (Links to an external site.), MichiganDOC (Links to an external site.). Please respond to the following:
- Explain how functions associated with your chosen position relate to correctional goals.
- Reflect on how the position may contribute to both social justice and criminal justice objectives within the context of corrections.
Your journal should be at least 400 words in length and properly cite and reference at least one state department of corrections website or the Federal Bureau of Prisons website.

The main aim of the correction facilities in the US being retribution, and deterrence. There are high cases of imprisonment of mentally ill persons. According to there are limited programs that link mentally ill persons to rehabilitation centers. This sees an increase of mentally ill persons within the prisons. Mental health cases such as antisocial behavior, depression, manic disorders, and personality disorders are high (Daniel, 2017). With the majority of offenders linked to drug abuse, the mental health issue increases, leading to a serious mental crisis in the correction facilities today.
