Devoting attention to the SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, and Recommendation) communication project has significantly impacted my healthcare environment. Before undertaking the project, the healthcare setting primarily relied on informal communication channels during patient handoffs.
This communication approach led to delayed communication among healthcare staff, particularly between nurses and patients during handoffs, resulting in a decline in patient satisfaction and health outcomes. Communication failures during handoffs significantly impeded prompt diagnosis and treatment procedures.
To rectify communication failures during handoffs, the project will concentrate on assessing the issue and identifying viable measures for improvement. Improving handoff communication will involve implementing various solutions to enhance patient safety and satisfaction during the process.
One crucial aspect will be raising awareness among the nursing staff about the importance of structured communication through the SBAR model, fostering a culture of effective handoff practices. This initiative aims to create a more streamlined and efficient communication process, ultimately improving patient care and outcomes (O’Connell, Macdonald, & Kelly, 2018).
