NR 660 Week 5: Barriers Encountered Answer

According to Stewart (2016), SBAR communication is an essential tool for reducing medical errors, improving patient satisfaction, enhancing care delivery, and overall improvement in health outcomes. Introducing change in a healthcare setting is a complex process that requires the collaboration of various stakeholders to ensure comprehensive compliance with the proposed care structure.

While developing the Capstone Project on SBAR communication, I encountered several barriers that significantly impacted the endeavor. Despite the evident barriers, resolutions were identified to overcome these hindrances.

SBAR communication embodies a multi-disciplinary approach to healthcare operations. As emphasized by Kostoff, Burkhardt, Winter, and Shrader (2016), SBAR provides a powerful tool applied to enhance communication among nurses, physicians, and patients to convey a comprehensive message about a patient’s condition.

Throughout the Capstone Project, I identified barriers such as the differentiation between urgent and non-urgent communications, the distinction between outpatient and inpatient communication frameworks, and specific approaches to consider when addressing these challenges. These barriers, although challenging, were addressed with effective resolutions to ensure the successful implementation of the SBAR communication model.
