NR 660 Week 6: Ethics Answer
According to Farmer and Lundy (2017), ethical principles play a crucial role in healthcare, providing a foundation for balancing interests, values, and health-based principles in the delivery and allocation of care services. However, these factors often conflict, creating situations that impact the decision-making process of healthcare staff in care delivery.
Ethical dilemmas within the SBAR communication model have significantly shaped my project by incorporating ethical principles and concepts prevalent in healthcare service delivery. In the SBAR communication framework, key steps guide the healthcare team in navigating the ethical decision-making process during care provision.
Throughout the development of the SBAR communication project, various ethical dilemmas became apparent. One such dilemma was autonomy, highlighting the patient’s right to freedom and self-determination. While patients are expected to share information willingly, the dilemma arises when patients are also expected to provide comprehensive information to facilitate effective care.
This ethical tension underscores the delicate balance between respecting patient autonomy and ensuring the necessary information for optimal care provision, leading to a careful consideration of ethical principles in the SBAR communication model.
