NR501 Week 2: Collaboration
NR501 Week 2: Collaboration. This week I would like for you to share an experience or situation in which you felt underprepared or challenged. The situation could be your first full code on a patient or visitor, a precipitous delivery, a patient dying, or many other situations in which you just did not feel like you had enough information or knowledge related to handling the situation.
Afterward, you probably went over the scenario with others or in your mind with thoughts of what should I have done differently, what nuggets of wisdom can I add to my ever-growing knowledge and wisdom, etc. Please share one of these experiences with us and tell us what you learned from the situation as you self-reflect. How did this experience help you with other situations in your nursing career?
NR501 Week 2: Collaboration Answer
During my tenure as a night shift nurse in the emergency unit, I confronted a challenging situation when a patient involved in a road accident was rushed in, bleeding profusely and barely conscious. This was an unprecedented experience for me, accustomed to handling emergencies related to respiratory and cardiovascular issues.
Despite my initial discomfort, I acknowledged my responsibility to provide optimal care. Promptly initiating the vehicle accident response procedure, I commenced cardiopulmonary resuscitation while my night nurse colleague gathered crucial patient data. Regrettably, our resuscitation efforts proved unsuccessful, and the patient succumbed to the severe injuries.
The sense of helplessness and guilt weighed heavily on me for being unable to save the patient. Following the tragic outcome, we meticulously cleaned the room and took the challenging task of informing the patient’s family, marking a poignant moment in my nursing journey.NR501 Week 2: Collaboration
