The nursing theory I chose is:
Theory: Need Theory
Theorist: Virginia Henderson
Why did I choose my selected nursing theory?
The rationale for selecting the Need Theory is primarily due to its direct relevance to the nursing profession and its alignment with my MSN specialty track in education. Moreover, the theory comprehensively encompasses all four metaparadigms of nursing.NR501 Week 4: Importance
A brief summary of the nursing theory I chose, including key concepts:
The Need Theory emphasizes the nurse’s role in enhancing the patient’s independence for post-hospitalization recovery. At its core, the theory centers around basic human needs, leading to its development regarding patient needs and the nursing role in facilitating their fulfillment (Ahtisham & Jacoline, 2015).
The theory is grounded in three key assumptions: (i) nurses provide care until patients achieve self-independence, (ii) nurses are dedicated to serving patients day and night, and (iii) nurses should be educated in both the art and science of nursing at the college level (Ahtisham & Jacoline, 2015). Comprising 15 components categorized into four classes, the theory addresses physiological needs (eating, dress, sleep, and environment) and psychological needs (learning, communication with others, expression of emotion, fears, and needs).NR501 Week 4: Importance
