One of the prevalent healthcare challenges is the persistent shortage of Registered Nurses (RNs) across local, state, and national healthcare systems. This scarcity of RNs has far-reaching consequences, primarily manifested in the escalating work hours for existing nurses.

The ramifications of this shortage include heightened levels of occupational stress, burnout, fatigue, diminished nurse performance, productivity, and job satisfaction, ultimately resulting in compromised patient care quality (Gerardi, Farmer, & Hoffman, 2018). Despite concerted efforts to tackle RN shortages and their associated repercussions, the ongoing clash between the needs of nursing workforce, available resources, and patient demands continues to undermine intervention strategies.

Efforts to mitigate RN shortages involve expanding nursing education resources, encompassing the development and establishment of additional nursing schools and faculties, creation of classrooms, recruitment of preceptors, and identification of additional practicum sites (Gerardi, Farmer, & Hoffman, 2018).

However, the allocation of resources to meet these needs often competes with other essential demands in the healthcare system, creating a challenging dynamic. Addressing the shortage requires a delicate balance between bolstering nursing education resources and managing the broader workforce and patient care demands.
