Reflect back on what you have learned in this course about how to construct high-quality arguments for positions. Give an example of how the ability to think logically and to construct good arguments could help you in your career and in your daily life. In what ways the skill of being able to evaluate the quality of reasoning on all sides will better enable you to discover what is true and to make better choices? (Feel free to reference the specific area of life that you raised in your post your introduction in Week 1.)
Finally, consider the argument you have been developing for your writing assignments. How has fairly considering multiple points of view helped you clarify your own perspective? What advice would you give to people to help them understand issues more clearly and objectively while being fair to all sides? Feel free to comment on any other values you have gained from this course so far.
Your journal entry must be at least 250 words. You do not need to follow APA style for this journal entry, but you should proofread your work to eliminate errors of grammar and spelling.
PHI103 Week 4 – Journal Answer
Throughout this course, I’ve gained valuable insights into constructing high-quality arguments, employing logical thinking, and evaluating reasoning from various perspectives. One notable example of how these skills can be applied in my career is in project management. When communicating project proposals or updates, constructing clear and persuasive arguments is crucial. Logical thinking helps in presenting a well-organized case, which is essential for obtaining buy-in from stakeholders.
In daily life, the ability to construct good arguments is valuable in decision-making. Whether discussing plans with family or negotiating with friends, presenting well-reasoned arguments enhances communication and helps in reaching consensus.
The skill of evaluating the quality of reasoning on all sides is invaluable for discovering truth and making informed choices. In my personal and professional life, understanding different viewpoints and critically assessing the reasoning behind them allows me to make well-rounded decisions. It promotes open-mindedness, fostering an environment where diverse opinions are considered.
Regarding the argument developed in the writing assignments, considering multiple points of view has been instrumental in refining my perspective. Fairly assessing opposing arguments has helped me recognize the strengths and weaknesses in my own reasoning, prompting adjustments for a more robust position.
To help others understand issues more clearly and objectively, my advice would be to actively seek diverse perspectives, engage in respectful discussions, and critically evaluate the reasoning behind each viewpoint. Emphasizing the importance of logical thinking and open-mindedness can contribute to a more informed and balanced understanding of complex issues. Overall, this course has reinforced the value of critical thinking, logical reasoning, and fair evaluation in both personal and professional aspects of life.
