Title: MyPlate Comparison
Throughout the years, a variety of dietary tools have been published including the Basic Seven, Basic Four, the Food Wheel, the Food Guide Pyramid, the MyPyramid Guide, and finally the newest tool: MyPlate. MyPlate illustrates the five food groups that are the building blocks for a healthy diet using a familiar image — a place setting for a meal. Before you eat, think about what goes on your plate or in your cup.
For this discussion, you will view the MyPlate animation in the companion WileyPLUS site and then answer the discussion topics listed below.
Instructions for viewing the MyPlate animation:

- Watch the animation on MyPlate.
- Click on each food and watch the animation explain how the food fits into MyPlate.

SC115 Unit 1 Discussion MyPlate Comparison Answer
The MyPlate video has shown me what a full day’s “plate” should look like, based primarily on consuming proper portions of grains, protein, dairy, fruits, and vegetables. I can see I personally have a skewed vision (macros first instead of food groups first) when compared to MyPlate recommendations. I also eat a lot more protein than recommended, and not nearly enough grains or dairy. I’d like to think I can merge the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines, MyPlate, and my macro managing app together to create the most balanced nutrient rich diet.
One of my favorite dinnertime meals is “Chicken and Sweet Taters” in the instant pot. I use four chicken breasts, four sweet potatoes, one yellow onion, a bag of baby carrots, 6 teaspoons of a BBQ seasoning, pink salt, black pepper, and a tablespoon of olive oil. This makes 4 servings………….
