CM107 Unit 4 Discussion

Drafting Your Informal Blog Post

In the Unit 3 Discussion Board, you posted topic ideas for your Unit 4 Assignment. After reviewing the feedback you received in the Unit 3 DB and again reviewing the Unit 4 Assignment, select one of the topics you posted in Unit 3 (or a different one if you have changed your topic ideas) and then implement your plan for the blog post by writing a rough draft of at least two paragraphs. Once you receive feedback on your posted draft, begin revising your ideas and strengthening the development, organization, and clarity of your thoughts as you prepare the final version of this paper for the Unit 4 Assignment Dropbox. Aim to post your draft by Saturday so that you have time to review and apply feedback during your revision process.

INITIAL POST: Use the following downloadable Blog Post Graphic Organizer to organize your thoughts into a two or more paragraph draft. Do not worry about the draft being perfect or even correct and edited. Your goal is to get your ideas down on the page so you can then take the next steps in the writing process: Revising and Editing.

Blog Post Graphic Organizer

Paragraph 1
  • introduce topic
  • grab audience
  • establish the main point
Paragraph 2
  • Share a relevant personal experience with the problem
  • show how you were able to deal with or solve the problem
Paragraph 3
  • motivate your audience to also use your recommended solution
  • draw it to a close

Be sure to also include a brief reflection: What Unit 4 Assignment rubric requirements are you currently meeting in this draft and what do you still need to do to meet all requirements?

Also include an open-ended question that helps your classmates and instructor to best help you with revising and strengthening your draft. Please also refer to and credit the Unit 4 Reading material to help validate your ideas and give you practice with using and crediting source information.

RESPONSES TO INITIAL POSTS: Read and respond to at least two of your classmates’ initial posts. Use the following downloadable Peer-Review Chart to help you to be constructive and specific in your feedback. Please do not just identify weaknesses and do not comment on grammar or spelling. Each response should be at least 100 words. Be sure to ask relevant questions to help your classmates reflect on their writing process. Include References to the Unit reading material to help you validate your ideas and give you practice with using source information. Then, copy and paste your completed Peer-Review Chart.

Your honest and constructive feedback will HELP!

Help the writer see what he or she did well.
Find one quality in the draft that is particularly effective. Explain why it’s a strong quality and why the writer should keep doing this information.
Evaluate the main point If you were the intended nonprofessional audience for the paper, what do you think the writer could do differently to strengthen the main point so that the writer’s point about the topic is clear and immediately understood?
Look over the information, details, and research the writer chose to include What could the writer do to strengthen the information used and the development of ideas in the paper? Do the details, information, and use of personal experience consistently support the main point? What needs to be taken out because it isn’t relevant to the main point? What other or more relevant information, detail, or personal experience could the writer include to more effectively support the main point?
Plan for revising What parts of the draft are either unclear or confusing and what could the writer do to improve these sections of the paper? What do you suggest the writer plan to do during revision to make the paper stronger and more effective?

FOLLOW UP RESPONSES: Read and respond to questions and comments your classmates and instructor have made on your draft, so you show you have read them and are using the feedback as part of your revision plan.
