Justice seeks to make things right. The idea of justice is based on ethics, equality, human rights, religion, and solidarity. In an exploration of the work of John Rawls, Otried, ed. (2014: Section 1.2, Para. 1) indicates that “Rawls considers ‘justice to be the first virtue of social institutions’. In importance it is only comparable to ‘truth […] in systems of thought’”. Juveniles have a branch of justice that is devoted to issues unique to minors who commit crimes. Data shows that most juvenile offenders do not go on to commit crime as adults. - Describe processes for juvenile justice, beginning with intake and ending with detention.

Justice and Juvenile Justice
During the period of the industrial revolution, many people began to move from their farms to cities where factories were starting to be built. With all of this migration beginning to start, there came a demand for places to live, for food, and other necessities, and many finding protection from the “criminal class” (Wright, 2012). This new criminal class had caused a severe social rift. Adding to this migration, a political movement known as the Progressive movement was a way to address these problems. The Progressive movement which if used by its followers; believed that the movement used the power of the state to improve the lives of families and individuals (Wright, 2012). It was during the time of the industrial revolution, many children were working in factories, homeless and poor, and some formed groups which were called “gangs”. With this problem arising, a group called child savers helped to form the first institution to house these children or youths who were involved in any criminal activity. This institution was called the House of Refuge; it was the first to be established in 1825 in New York (Wright, 2012).
