Imagine a playlist of four songs that express similar ideas to or that seem to accompany the creative work of the woman writer that you have chosen for your podcast (the short stories and/or poems). You may use music of any genre and by any artist or group. You will not be required to link actual recordings of the music; instead, you will justify your imagined playlist in “liner notes” using the following questions and instructions:
Write an introduction of approximately 100 words that argues for how the four songs work together through their similarities and differences as a compilation of music to express the ideas or tone of your chosen writer. Argue for your order of songs as part of that expression. Make sure that you name the musical artists and song titles as well as your woman writer.
For each of the four songs, write approximately 100 words that argues for that song’s contribution to illumining the ideas or tone of your chosen writer. Make sure to quote directly from both the woman writer’s creative works (short stories and/or poems) and the song lyrics as you compare. If your playlist includes any works without lyrics (classical music, for example), then you should be analyzing the musical composition and expression in your liner notes instead of lyrics. If you can include a link to a recording or performance of the songs, then you are welcomed to do so within these sections, but you are not required to do so.
Make sure to choose brief passages (phrases or partial sentences) to use as evidence from the literary texts and from the song lyrics (if your playlist has lyrics) for your interpretation as you answer the questions.
Suggestions
Assume that your audience knows the songs, and avoid summary.
Use evidence to support your argument, but avoid block quotations.
This should not be a formal essay but rather a collection of four mini-analyses that are ordered intentionally to comment on the woman writer’s work in specific ways, preceded by an introduction that argues for the playlist’s interpretive value.

ENG 2230 Music Liner Notes Answer
Music Liner Notes
The woman writer considered in the assignment is Margaret Atwood. The phenomenal Canadian has penned down marvelous pieces of art in literary circles. Her theme is best carried in the novel The Handmaid’s Tale, which he wrote in 1985. The novel’s primary theme is dystopian. The author brings the imagination of the Gilead state where a totalitarian regime makes people suffer greatly, with little regard to freedom and servant leadership. The people who are dominated by these totalitarians are also described as complicit under the prevailing circumstances. The dystopia theme is covered in many different songs by great artists over time. Some of them include; Talkin’ World War III Blues by Bob Dylan, Gimme Shelter by Rolling Stones, Apocalypse Dreams by Tame Impala, and It is The End of the World as We Know It by R.E.M. The songs are themed in a way that presents the future as dark with a crumbled society on the brink of collapse……….
