HN144 Unit 3 Discussion Biopsychosocial Factors Impacting Infancy Development Answer
There are many pregnancy complications that can affect infant development. Three of those complications are toxemia, gestational diabetes, and intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) (Williams, 2017). Toxemia refers to proteinuria found in the urine that is toxic. It is can be seen through weight gain, swelling of the hands and face and protein in the urine. If this condition advances it can lead to maternal or fetal death and potentially fetal brain damage (Williams, 2017). Gestational Diabetes, a carbohydrate intolerance, is seen in 80 percent of diabetes cases in pregnancy (Williams, 2017). Women who experience gestational diabetes will have to monitor their blood glucose levels and have to alter their diet or even take insulin injections to manage the symptoms and a majority of women will develop diabetes postpartum (Williams, 2017)………….
