JD2002: Factors That Influence Juvenile Delinquency Answer
On September 28, 2016, fourteen-year-old Jesse Osborne shot and killed three students, a teacher, and his father. Osborne fired at Townville Elementary school kids in Townville, South Carolina, using a 40-caliber pistol. According to Cox (2019), as Osborne fired he shouted “I hate my life”. Osborne attended the Townville Elementally and was known to be a good student. Osborne’s action according to an investigator was influenced by an online group that may have encouraged Osborne to commit the act. Osborne was tried as an adult and sentenced to life in prison without parole and 30 years for attempted murder.
The cases of teenagers killing school children in the United States is worrying. This triggers the question of how the criminal justice system should deal with children who shoot to death other children at school. According to Lawrence & Hemmens, (2008) American students are in fear of going to school due to increased cases of mass shootings.
