Your Response
A judge is at the center of proceedings in the criminal justice system. Everyone holds their breadths ahead of rulings made by a judge. Such is the influence of a judge. The roles of a judge transcend their appearance in the courtroom during the trial. Beforehand, a judge is involved in giving arrest warrants and conducting probation at the conclusion of a case. Within the powers of a judge, they can interpret a complex legal situation as narrated by [prosecutors and defendants. In Case 4, the judges have the power to decide whether Edward portrayed reasonable doubt or not, portraying their power to interpret.
Hemmens et al. (2017) described prosecutors as the most fascinating actors in the system, and with limitless authority in the conduct of cases. Primarily, the power of the prosecutor is representing the government in prosecuting criminal offenses. Other than criminal prosecutorial powers, the government’s attorney has responsibility in juvenile matters, child support enforcement, and civil assets forfeiture. In Case 3, the prosecution pursues an extradition hearing to ensure that Edward is brought before the court, which is part of their prosecutorial powers.
