SAMPLE SOLUTION

The case of the internet relationship involves Ana, a 14-year-old girl from Colorado, and an adult, Eric, from New Mexico. According to Colorado laws, it is a felony to invite or entice a child with the internet with the intention of sexual assault or unlawful sexual contact. Additionally, internet luring a child under 15 is a felony. Therefore, Eric has committed a felony under Colorado and New Mexico laws. The Criminal Justice through the state police has the responsibility of arresting Eric. The County Sheriff of Colorado therefore has the responsibility of coordinating a multiple district investigation, search and rescue mission (Kneier, 2017).  As enticement of a child under 15 years is a felony, the Colorado Sheriff can pursue Eric in New Mexico. The Federal Bureau of Investigation can take jurisdiction on the invite of the Sherriff (Farrell, et al,. 2016). The FBI through the Child Exploitation Task Force (CETFs) can collaborate with state and local law enforcement to identify and prosecute Eric. The United States Attorney’s office in the District of Colorado through the Project Safe Childhood can also have jurisdiction in this case. This is through marshaling federal, state, and local resources in rescuing the victim, apprehending and prosecuting Eric. Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS) and United States Attorneys’ offices will work together in prosecuting the case.
