PS124 Unit 3 Discussion
Throughout this course, many opportunities are available to post an initial response to a Discussion topic as well as to respond to your classmates’ responses. After you have completed the reading, and without reviewing your classmates’ responses, post your initial response to the following Discussion. Your post should be at least 150 words in length and should extend the discussion of the group supported by your course materials and/or other appropriate resources. After you have submitted your initial post, review some of your classmates’ posts and respond to at least two of your classmates. Refer to your Discussion Board Rubric in your Syllabus for a specific grading explanation.
Discussion Topic
In this unit, you are learning more about the biological influences in psychology, as well as the genetic endowments that shape your behavior. In this Discussion Board, you will consider how stress impacts you biologically, considering concepts such as genetic influences, nervous system activity, and hormonal influences.
Here is a peer-reviewed research article that gives you some current scientific information in this area if you want to take a closer look in the Purdue Global library:
- Many if not all college students experience stress in their lives. Describe a situation that you would consider a common source of stress for college students. Consider ways that students can try to minimize the negative consequences of this type of stress.
- Based on your learning about biological influences in psychology, consider how these influences may impact or be impacted by this source of stress. Could heredity play a role in the experience of this stress?
- Chemical messengers are used in the nervous system and the endocrine system. Describe which neurotransmitters and hormones could be impacted by the stress and coping methods that you have already described.
PS124 Unit 3 Discussion Answer
As a college student myself, I find that time management is stressful for me. I have to work from 6:30 am to 4:00 pm with two breaks in-between for breakfast and lunch, I am also pregnant and have to make sure that I am taking care of myself and my baby, I come home and have to deal with my dog and things around the house because my husband is deployed and I still squeeze in time to do my homework. I know this may not be the best schedule because I am doing this assignment on the day it is due but can you imagine if this was someone who was a full-time student minus the difference in work hours and possibly the pregnancy? How can one not be stressed? The best way to help minimize some of the stress is to try to work on your downtime and set a goal for the day.
